The Rakahuri Mountain Bike Rage
The Rakahuri Rage is a new endurance mountainbiking event to be held beside the Ashley River just north of Rangiora in March 2015.  Teams of 2-4 riders will race for 6 hours around a 7km course, with the aim to complete as many laps as possible in that time.  The course has been designed to suit riders of all abilities, mixing fast and flat sections with areas requiring a bit more technical skill to challenge everyone.  New tracks are currently being created for this event, which winds through the trees on the south side of the Ashley Riverbed near the Rangiora Race Course, linking existing biking and walking tracks with stopbank roads.

The event is being held to raise funds so the Mainpower Sports Trust can extend the MainPower Primary School Swimming Programme  and to promote sport and recreation in the region with a local based event.  In 2016 Mainpower intends having an event just for primary school children on the night before but this will depend on how well it goes in March.

The Rakahuri Rage is all about encouraging riders to have a go and challenge themselves while being part of a supportive team which might be made up of workmates, family or friends.  Entries are limited to 200 teams, with each team given an area right next to the track to set up a gazebo or tent so they can relax between laps.  The race will start at 10am and finish at 4pm.

The race is open to all riders over 12 years old, with a variety of team categories available to enter...
Corporate   /   Mixed   /   Open Men’s   /   Open Women’s   /   School / Family   /    Veteran Men’s   /   Veteran Women’s (over 35 years)  /  Old Cranks (over 50 years)
Cost is $55 per rider with all proceeds going to the MainPower Primary Schools Swimming Programme

Entry forms are also available from Push Bikes Rangiora and the Sports Centre, East Belt, Rangiora
