2017 Canterbury Athletics Results

15 students from Fernside made the journey to Ashburton to compete in the 2017 Canterbury Primary Schools’ Athletic Championships on Wednesday 6th.
They competed in 22 different events, which illustrates the depth of their abilities and training.

On top of this achievement, several of our students were placed in the top 20 of field events and several made the sprints finals (top 10). Zoe jumped well in the long jump to place 6th.

Sporting Events

All things Sporting
In Sport this week there are 7 students competing in the Canterbury Triathlon at Pegasus on Wednesday. We admire their tenacity and wish them well - Ashton, Meagan, Cohan, Kirsty, Campbell George, Mitchel Turner and Daniel Watts.
This week we presented 3 lots of certificates, among them Canterbury ones! 2nd place in the Tennis Competition to Kees, Olivia W, Ed & Max.
This week sees the start of our student led School Tennis Champs in singles and doubles. Students umpire and record all games which are the best of 3 games with a Short Deuce.
The overall placings for the School Athletics Day in each age and gender group and those placing in the Rakahuri Athletics Championships (still some relay results to come in). Next week, Amelia, Angus, Josh MacD, Jono R-D, Xanthe, Mya, Sienna, Rosa W Tayla M, Zack, Kalio, Kirsty, Lane, Riley, and Zoe compete in 25 events between them at the Canterbury Athletics Championships in Ashburton.
Next week the Promoters of the World U 19 Cricket Cup will be visiting the School from midday to 1 o'clock on Monday. Please feel free to join us if you are mad keen cricket followers. If this clashes with swimming times for our cricketeers we will change their times for the day.
Year 8 parents are asked to send in a maximum of 5 photographs of their children (and others too please) over the years on School activities or in uniform. Please send them to annabel.wilson@xtra.co.nz
In Basketball Jono R-D played in the All Stars Game and Amelia competed in the 3 point shooting competition! This week sees the start of the play-off rounds which would be a good time to thank your coaches and managers for their work over the season. Please attend your practices. I know that that students get tired at this time of the year but it is important to show gratitude to your coaches who take time to plan and run the practices and games.
During the week we held an Inter-House relay and Throwing Competitionwhich Kahurangi dominated!

Term 4 and athletics

With springtime comes a sudden interest in exercise and we shed the layers of winter clothes! The School students , however are always running about, whether playing tag, touch or tennis.
Our School athletics day is fast approaching and the relevant information is on the athletics page as it becomes available.
Congratulations to all the students who played representative sport over the holidays. We had many students enjoying tournaments and some stunning successes as well - in basketball and football.
