Final Sports Results for 2016

As I write this I am waiting in anticipation of hearing how our Canterbury athletes performed in Ashburton yesterday at the Canterbury Athletic Championships. Updates to follow.

After 4 years+ and many successes in biking, running, and swimming, triathlon & duathlon competition, Jacob Turner has cracked it!
At last week's Canterbury Triathlon Jacob was placed second behind his mate Dominic. He is absolutely over the moon and this is what he said, "This is the one I've wanted the most". What a remarkable year for Jacob after being placed third in the U14 Mountain Biking Nationals, as well as all his other achievements in sport. Congratulations Jacob.

Coming in closely was newcomer, year 5 Kirtsy Watts who was placed 4th in the 9 girls. Kirtsy and family are passionate about triathlons and it shows in her placing and her enjoyment.
Ashton & Cohan finished highly in their big fields with 15th and 21st respectively.

In our School Tennis Championships:
Girls' Singles: Rosa Davidson, runner-up Molly Spark
Boys' Singles: Ed Davdison, runner-up Max Walsh
Girls' Doubles: Molly Spark & Isabel Thiellier
Boys' Doubles: Ed Davidson & Kees Bohnenn

This Friday is our final night of Basketball. Thank you to all the people that make this possible: The NCJBA committee and their band of floor controllers and referees. What a mammoth job they have and what a great job they do.
Thank you to our coaches: Megan & Caitlin Penney, Mitchell Bailey, Rob Storer, Rosie O'Shea and team of    Mikaela & Bailey , Kelly Smart, and our mini ball coach Nicky Simpson

Our 6 Basketball teams are flourishing under their supportive coaches and the comprehensive NCJBA programme.

Football seems to have last finished after many tournaments in the holidays in which students Xanthe, Maddison, Tayla and Max played. Sadly Madz broke her collarbone at the last training!

Our talented student Jacob Turner finished 3rd in the National Under 14 Mountain Biking Championships!

Sport above politics? Silver and Rakahuri Tournament postponement

With August descending into freezing conditions what better time to be glued to the TV for the Olympics.
Congratulations to our exceptional sailors Pete Burling & Blair Tuke who lead our team at Rio.
It is always emotional for me watching the team emerge from the tunnel. Interesting that the only team to pause longer was the USA team.

The ceremony was a brief story of Brazil's human history and a celebration of their diversity and their love of dance and music. It was the most chilled Opening ceremony I have witnessed. I liked the theme and the speech of the Rio organising Committee Chair - In Humanity we need to look for similarities and celebrate diversity.

The IOC Refugee Team received rapturous applause.
An emotional highlight for me was the IOC's new award, the Olympic Laurel for services and achievement in the fields of education, culture, development & peace through Sport - what a special moment for Kenya Runner Kipchoge Keino.

Go the KIWI's! Good luck to them all. Congratulations to our first medal recipient - Natalie Rooney you legend,  from Timaru (Trap Shooting).

The Rakahuri Winter Tournament is now being held on Friday 12th August.

NC Friday Night Basketball Registrations opened this week. Please watch the basket  ball page on this blog for all the information.

Good luck to anyone playing in rugby finals tomorrow.

If anyone makes representative teams please let me know!

Term 3

This week we send 8 teams to compete in the Rakahuri Winter Tournament. This is an optional tournament so we are pleased so many are opting to participate.
WE are so grateful to the parents who manage and referee to make this possible!

The students will travel by bus and meet the parents at their venues at 9.15am.

Basketball has many opportunities so please visit the basketball page.

The Olympics are rocking up which explain the many tired faces while we follow our athletes with bated breath!
