What a lovely day we had for our Fernside School cross country. There were so many positives, a highlight being the way the students embraced the House Colours. The House relay was won by Kahurangi and overall Whero pipped them by 1 point!
It was wonderful to see the students strive to meet their goals - finishing the course for some, qualifying for Rakahuri (22 made it!) or winning their year group. yr 3 - 8 results are on the cross country page.
The students loved the House rivalry and relay, the rough parts of the course, jumping the hay bales and feeling fitter.
Many made the comment that is was getting easier and easier over the weeks of preparation and that is seemed so much easier when the focus was on getting House points.

Cross country season
2014 Fernside School
Cross Country – Wednesday 21st May (pp 22nd)
(Years 3 – 8, Rooms 4 –
10)
Dear Parents/ Caregivers
The annual School Cross Country will be held in
the School grounds from 10.30am.
With a postponement date of the next day.
Can you help with marshalling?
Please contact your class teacher.
This
is a Year Race and House event so we ask the students to wear something in
their House Colour – tee shirt, socks, bandana, face paint. I hope you can join
us on the day as the children perform better with adult encouragement ( and we
really need your support with marshalling please).

Healthy Me and cross country season!
Welcome back to all our Fernside students and families.
With more time spent near heating it is a good chance to reflect on what keeps us healthy.
The School's focus on Healthy Me is a result of our PE and Health review in 2013.
WE hope to encourage students and their families to consider their days in terms of exercise, recreation, helping others, relaxing, stretching our minds, socialising and eating well.
And how all of that makes us happier.
It seems that timing is everything as we combine that focus with a senior camp, a training day for our Jump Jam leaders, the Canterbury Duathlon this Wednesday (Good luck to Ben H, Hannah, Ella, Caitlin, Harri, Jacob, Maddy, Ashton, and Lillie who have been training hard) and the School Cross Country in week 3 on Wednesday 21st.
Please find a notice about the cross country in the pages section.
This year's Rakahuri event is being held at Loburn unless it is exceptionally wet. So view the course and get out there for a run! WEdnesday 4 June

Looking ahead, Rooms 8 - 10 will be participating in a Winter Sports Interchange programme in Term 3. Rooms 8 - 10 will be learning more about gymnastics and trampolining.
